Getting up Sunday morning took a lot of effort. But it was going to be a good last day at the festival, so despite being tired I was still excited.
I started my day covering Taylor Swift’s autograph session at Greased Lightning Fan Fair Hall. This was easily one of the craziest things I have ever seen—children and adults alike pushed, ran and screamed their way over to Taylor’s booth, all in the hopes of getting an autograph or maybe a photo. I imagine it’s something like being in the middle of the running of the bulls, just replacing Hispanic accents with southern ones. I’m pretty sure I’ll never experience anything quite like it again.
After leaving the Taylor Swift insanity behind, it was time for one more venture out into the humid Nashville heat to cover a couple of shows in the Family Zone. A highlight was Jon Ashton’s cooking show. Christian trio Point of Grace joined Ashton onstage to make a blueberry lemon-cream dessert that I was very happy to find out was available to the entire audience.
I got on the Press Express for one final ride and made my way back to LP Field to file my final stories. I wandered around backstage for a bit after I finished writing and tried to take in the atmosphere a bit—I don’t know how long it will be until I have this kind of access for such a high-profile event again.
After all the work was said and done my day wasn’t over quite yet—I still had to drive back to Chattanooga. The drive back wasn’t too bad and I avoided most of the Bonnaroo traffic, but knowing that I have to get up at seven and be back at work in the morning isn’t the most comforting thought. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really enjoying my job, but I would give just about anything for one day to sleep and catch up. But hey, that’s a small price to pay for the amazing week I just had.
